TLI27120 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure


The TLI27120 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure qualification is a general qualification for a person engaged in basic operations within the rail infrastructure environment, undertaking a range of tasks involving known routines and procedures and taking some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

The course contains six (6) core units of competency that are:

  • TLIB0012 Maintain and use hand tools
  • TLID1001 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
  • TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication
  • TLIF1001 Follow work health and safety procedures
  • TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
  • TLIU2008 Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure

PLUS seven (7) specialist Track Work units of competency that are:

  • TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor
  • TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals
  • TLIB2092 Operate minor mechanical equipment
  • TLIS2030 Carry out track ballasting
  • TLIS2031 Install railway sleepers
  • TLIS2034 Install and repair rail fastening systems
  • TLIS2044 Cary out rail installation

PLUS three (3) general units of competency that are:

  • TLIW0007 Operate under track protection rules
  • TLIB2121 Maintain rail joints
  • TLIB2097 Install and maintain rail guards

Must be 15 years or older and no longer at school


DURATION/DELIVERY  MODE                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Course duration:   This course will take up to six (6) months.  Prior skills and knowledge will be considered at enrolment that could alter study time.

Delivery mode: 

Face to face classroom with practical training in a simulated rail environment

Distance learning in a virtual classroom

  • Training delivered in a virtual classroom using online platforms
  • Online video tutorials
  • Record or live stream practical assessment for marking

Students will learn skills and knowledge to enable them to work in the roles of a Track Worker, Track Installer, or Track Maintainer. For units of competency successfully completed during the course students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment from the Transport and Logistics Training Package. Students who successfully complete all units of competency within the course will receive the TLI27120 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure nationally recognised qualification.
